Let Us Be In One Spirit (Masibe Moya munye)
In 2024, I produced two episodes of “engaging conversation with one woman and her aspirations for upcoming generations of female Jazz and improvised music artists in South Africa.” My guest was South African bassist and educator Sibongile Buda.
Maria Schneider
Here’s my 2024 interview with composer and orchestra leader Maria Schneider. For over two decades, Schneider has been a recurring presence on readers’ and critics’ polls in Jazz magazines for Best Big Band, Best Arranger, and Best Composer. She’s considered “one of the defining composers of her generation.” On Sat., Nov. 23, the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Maria Schneider Orchestra was held at The Town Hall in NYC.

Aural History: Bob Rogers
An extended conversation with the co-founder of Taintradio and radio programmer Bob Rogers, taken from our interview in July 2023. He talks about why he chose radio as a profession; his journey through commercial and non-commercial radio; his relationships with Buck Owens, Mort Fega, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Bob Fosse; his love of poetry; how he began working with fellow Taintradio programmer Ben Boddie; and his views on radio.
KPFA Black History Special 2023: Past Light, Clear Sight: Conscious Music - Sunday, February 5, 2023.
My segment included Afro-centered music and an interview with vocalist Jean Carne.
The seven-hour presentation of insightful programs celebrated Black culture and resilience, turning the focus toward a fulfilling present and an enlightened future.
Black History Month Special: Black Is - Monday, February 21, 2022.
My interview with saxophonist Javon Jackson and legendary poet, activist, and educator Nikki Giovanni about their collaborative recording The Gospel According to Nikki Giovanni.
Black Is was “a day of special Black History programming for 12 hours, featuring Black programmers from throughout the Pacifica Sister stations and affiliate network stations. Programmers of African heritage” came “together to articulate truth, unity, pride, and love for who they are, despite past and ongoing injustices.” It was “meant to be a day of connection, reflection, healing, laughter, and tears.”
